Speeds rescheduling Q&As

Updated Message about Entries for Speeds 2018

Following on from the postponement of the National Speed Lifesaving Championships 2018 due to the adverse weather conditions we carefully considered a range of options in relation to the event.  We sought the feedback of those involved in the event and we have received overwhelming support in relation to the rescheduling of the event to help ensure athletes have the opportunity to compete/achieve qualifying times for World/European events.

Following the decision to reschedule the event we gave competitors 3 options:-

  • Competitors could re-enter the event scheduled for May 2018 – the deadline for entries is 13 April 2018
  • Entries could be rolled over to the National Speed Lifesaving Event 2019
  • The cost of entries would be reimbursed if either of the above two options were unsatisfactory. Given the costs incurred in the organisation of the event and the extreme conditions that led to the cancellation there are costs that we, as a charity, have been unable to recoup. We suggested that athletes/team managers might be prepared not to receive a full refund and suggested a contribution of 15% (or an amount that they feel is acceptable) to help support the ‘lifesaving community’ and hope that this has been received in the spirit that it was intended.

If there are any particular questions or issue please contact [email protected]

Is the eligible age now as of the 19 May?

Only for new competitors

There may be the option for competitors to move up please contact [email protected] with your request.

What date will S&S sport award be required by?

Ideally 13 April, please contact [email protected] to discuss.

For original competitors will adjustments have to be made to competitors age groups?

No for original competitors the dates of the 3rd March can stand.

There may be the option for competitors to move up please contact [email protected] with your request.

14 year olds moving to 15+ can we now enter them into the additional events such as the tow and super etc.?

14 year olds who will be 15 by 19th June are able to move all their individual events to the 15-17 age group and therefore put new entries in for the two additional events.

There may be the option for competitors to move up please contact [email protected] with your request.

Unless otherwise instructed we will not be transferring competitors to different age groups.  Please contact [email protected] with such instructions.

Will new team entries be allowed?

Please complete a new entry form

Are new entries being accepted?

Please complete a new entry form

Will competitors who are 12 by the 19 May be able to enter?

Yes as a new competitor.

Please complete a new entry form

Will there be additional time allowed to get them through their S&S sport?

Ideally 13th April, but we will be as flexible as possible.

Please contact [email protected]to discuss.

What’s the new deadline for entries to be completed?

13th April, please complete a new entry form

Will you be re-drawing the lifesaving relay?

No, the original draw will stand.

Why weren't the competitors consulted about the new date?

We are doing our upmost to support the athletes who have trained for this event and would like to use the result for qualification for the world championships later this year.

Rather than simply cancel, we have rescheduled. Rescheduling at such short notice greatly limits the options available to us.  In this instance, we only had one date available. These are expectational circumstances and we hope that everyone will work with us to ensure that this rescheduled event is a success.

Will there be somewhere quiet to allow athletes to revise?

Yes, we have arranged a quiet area and a relaxation area for athletes.

Will those who can't attend be able to buy an event shirt?

We will be making event shirts available on RLSS Direct following the event.

Is #SNARL2018 being rescheduled too?

Are new entries being accepted for #SNARL2018?

Yes, please complete a new entry form.
