What does it involve?
RLSS UK is offering existing RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors and existing First Aid Instructors with other awarding organisations a simple and cost effective pathway to upskill or convert to deliver IQL First Aid qualifications.
If your application is successful, there will be a £50 fee for your new set of Training Resources, which includes candidate materials for First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid as well as access to the online resources to deliver the courses.
If you are not an existing RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor or existing First Aid Instructor with another awarding organisation, you can become a RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor by attending a First Aid Trainer Assessor course. Please visit course finder to find a course.
Why deliver with us?
IQL has been delivering Ofqual regulated qualifications since 2003 and award over 50,000 qualifications per annum to the wider leisure industry. As one of thirty four Awarding Organisations for First Aid, IQL is a member of the First Aid Awarding Body forum.
Those wishing to become an RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor must:
- Be a current RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor OR First Aid Instructor with another awarding organisation.
- Hold one of the following: a valid, in date, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification OR First Aid at Work Certificate from IQL or other awarding organisation.
- Hold a valid Level 3 Award in Education and Training Certificate (or equivalent). If you do not hold this qualification, RLSS UK are offering a competitively priced, distance learning course in partnership with Active IQ. Please click here for full details.
- Hold current RLSS UK Membership.
IQL First Aid qualifications are trainer assessed. Applicants must have been actively training first aid over the past three years. You are required to have completed the following within the last three years:
- A minimum of 36 hours first aid training delivery
- A minimum of 6 first aid related assessments

When completing the online application form, you will be asked to outline what first aid related training and assessing activity you have taken part in over the past three years.
All IQL First Aid qualifications must be delivered at an IQL UK Approved Training Centre (ATC) or via an IQL UK Approved Training Provider (ATP). If you currently work at an ATC/P you can start to deliver First Aid qualifications immediately by liaising with your ATC/P Coordinator.
If you are an independent trainer wishing to deliver First Aid qualifications, you can apply to become an ATP. The ATP scheme allows you to deliver qualifications at any location.
ATP’s receive access to IQL UK’s online software portal to assist with the delivery, assessment and recording of IQL UK managed qualifications. In addition, you will be assigned a dedicated Customer Engagement Manager. Your Customer Engagement Manager will be your primary contact at IQL UK and support you with the delivery of IQL qualifications. You Customer Engagement Manager will also conduct an External Quality Assurance visit with you every 12-18 months to ensure compliance with IQL UK and Ofqual regulatory requirements.
